On March 23 Govenor Roy Cooper announced that all public schools in North Carolina will remain closed for in-person instruction until May 15. The decision was made amid the rapidly evolving COVID-19 crisis.
The focus remains on remote learning and meal preparation and distribution, and the Department of Public Instruction already has teams planning for schools and legislative requests that will be required as students remain out of school. DPI is working with the governor's team, State Board of Education and the General Assembly. (CMS Official Statement) Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will provide grab and go meals while schools are closed. Lunch (and breakfast for the next day) will be served in participating school’s parking lots. Meals are free for anyone 18-years old and under. Children must be present to receive meals.
Meals will be distributed Monday-Friday beginning Tuesday, March 17 from 10:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. SCHOOL CLOSINGS - SPRING BREAK
As COVID-19 (coronavirus) cases increase across the state, Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all K-12 schools to close for two weeks, effective Monday, March 16, 2020. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will be closed for students for at least two weeks beginning Monday, March 16. This includes the CMS before- and after-school program. Given the Governor's decision, the CMS Board of Education plans to schedule a meeting to vote to return to the original school calendar. CMS executive leaders, in partnership with local and state officials, are developing plans to address these exceptional circumstances. These plans include feeding students and continuing learning using a virtual platform. (CMS Official Statement) SCHOOL CLOSINGS - SPRING BREAK
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education voted in an emergency meeting on March 13, 2020 to amend the 2019-2020 academic calendar to accommodate school closures for the COVID-19 virus. Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, will become teacher workdays. Spring break will be moved from April 13-17, to March 23-27. These changes will allow time to prepare for virtual and other forms of instructional delivery should they become necessary. (CMS Official Statement) |
