MPTS CLUBS
There are two Chess clubs offered at MPTS (Recreational and Competitive). Chess is a game that stresses many developmental, social and problem-solving skills. Research studies have shown chess can improve memory and imagination, and lead to higher verbal, reading and math scores among children. Your children are receiving instructional Chess in the classroom (starting in Spring for K, Fall for 1st grade and one semester for 2nd grade). They know more than you might think!
The Recreational Chess club, offered to all students that can complete a legal chess game, meets typically two Fridays per month, 8:00 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. in the media center (PARENT volunteers needed). Please visit, Recreational Chess at MPTS, to learn more. The Young Master Chess Competitive club, offered to first through fifth grade, meets on Thursdays, 8 – 9 a.m. in the media center. If interested, please fill out the application and mail tuition and form directly to YMC (YoungMasterChess/ 2500 Chesterfield Ave/ Charlotte/ NC/28205). DO NOT RETURN APPLICATION TO SCHOOL. KidzArt emphasizes the process versus the result which promotes self-expression and problem-solving skills. All artist quality supplies are provided, and classes are taught by KidzArt Certified Instructors.A new project is introduced each class, and students will gain confidence in their skills within the first 2-4 lessons. Art classes meet Wednesdays, 7:45 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. in the art room (TBD). Learn more and REGISTER today!

Premier Junior Golf is offered through the TGA Premier Youth Golf organization. TGA makes golf accessible to youth by bringing a unique teaching curriculum to K-5th grade students at school. Using modified equipment and lesson plans developed by golf professionals along with education industry experts. Classes run rain or shine on Mondays 8:00-9:00am, just not on early release or school cancellation days. There are 4 sessions through the year on the same day at the same time. Soccer Shots is the leader in youth soccer development for children ages 2-8. With over 160 locations across North America, we are focused on positively impacting children’s lives and the communities we serve. This Fall, classes are offered on Wednesdays 4:15-5:00pm. Girls on the Run® is dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. Little Sticks Lacrosse provides young student-athletes the opportunity to learn and love the game of lacrosse! We strive to provide the opportunity for young players to test out the game without a large financial commitment and are therefore thrilled to be able to offer each new laxer their very own lacrosse stick! Let Me Run is a running program for pre-teen and teenage boys (4-5th grade), led by trained coaches from your community. The goal is for boys to learn how to express themselves, reach personal goals, and improve their overall wellness. At the end of the program, the boys celebrate their hard work with a 5k road race. Playwell LEGO® inspired engineering classes are offered throughout the year typically on Friday 8:00-9:00am. Kids dive into classes and exercise their innate effort for building. They come away understanding fundamental principles of engineering and physics. The experience boosts their confidence, creativity and ability collaborate.
